Free Burma

Free Burma!

More about the campaign here; via Amp, who continues to set new and interesting parameters for “not blogging”.

  1. all very well and noble, but i am not sure it will accomplish anything. the u.n. envoy’s visit could not stop the violence and arrests. not sure what the u.s. envoy’s visit will accomplish. short of threats of military action, which would result in more bloodshed, i am not sure any talk or sanction would do any good. these are not rational, compassionate people we are talking about. a few select individuals rule the entire land of burma, and a whole lot of people suffer from poverty and oppression in a place they call home.

on the other hand, two former enemies, north korea and south korea, are making strides in mending fences in the historic talks and foot-border crossing by the south korean president. times change, people change, regimes change. the current burman junta is not about to change any time soon. but who knows, they may all have a simultaneous, spontaneous massive heart attack and die simultaneously.
