  1. In honor of which, I’ve changed the blog header image to a picture of a turtle.

(Why a turtle? Ah, but my question to you is — why not a turtle?)

  2. Sure that’s not a tortoise?

  3. Looks phallic to me.

  4. I was gonna say…apparently Amp is displacing some energy, there.

  5. It’s a tortoise, dudes. That’s what their heads are shaped like. Get over it. 😛

Edited to add: You know, I worked on that image for 20 minutes or so, and it never even occured to me that it was a penis. You guys have dirty minds. And the worse thing is, you’ve infected me: Now I can’t look at it without seeing a gray penis with eyes and a mouth.

I should recolor it in human flesh tones, just to give you guys something to really complain about.

Not on a conscious level maybe… But deep inside, your inner MRA was speaking…

It’s also clearly a circumcised penis, so obviously the World Jewish Conspiracy is a work here too.

    …You guys have dirty minds…

You’re the one who drew it.

  7. But deep inside, your inner MRA was speaking…

You know, I originally was going to do a tortoise with a head shaped like a vagina, but then a voice deep inside me said “but what about the men?” Now I know whose that voice was.

You’re the one who drew it.

Photographed it and then played with the image in photoshop, actually.

    Pervert.

You should do that, but have it facing the other way, then the penis tortoise and the vagina tortoise could glare at each other across the banner.

  10. On second thoughts, strike that. The vagina tortoise would only complain that the penis tortoise was oppressing her with his male gaze…

  11. No, it’ll still work. Just blind the male tortoise. I mean, that’s what I want to do every time I look at that damned picture. I don’t know how Ampersand can stand having it about the place.

  12. I love the tortoise. I’ve always thought tortoise heads were extremely cool-looking.

But I also like the idea of a frequently-changing header image, so I’m sure I’ll switch it at some point. Or someone else could switch it.

Say, do any of the other bloggers here have any objections to using copyrighted images without permission for our blog header? I don’t object to that sort of thing, but I won’t do it unless everyone else feels as I do.

  13. Since we’re non-commercial, I have no objection to a little boundary-blurring.

But I have to say, I’ve also grown quite fond of the tortoise, and have no objection to him staying on as the mascot/header critter.

  14. Hmmm… Can we have Achilles chasing the tortoise? Just for a bit of philosophical teasing?

I’m sure you need administrator privileges to do that, and with Adam AWOL, that’s only you.

    Don’t ask. Don’t tell.

  16. Can we have Achilles chasing the tortoise?

I think we should have Achilles ahead of the tortoise. We know he won, just because the damn historians have it otherwise…

  17. Or was that the hare? I’m confused now.

  18. I’m sure you need administrator privileges to do that…

People could email me images they’d like put in the header rotation. Just make sure the images are 215 wide x 150 high (in pixels).

  19. You’re thinking the Aesop’s Fable called “The Tortoise And The Hare.” I’m thinking of Zeno’s Paradox.

And anyways, the tortoise only beat the hare because the damn tortoises cheat. After all, that’s the only reason Speedy the Tortoise beat Bugs Bunny. Damn things ganged up on him and confused the hell out of the poor hare…

Not to mention the secret jet pack underneath the shell. It’ll get you every time.

(Sadly, the Merrie Melodies cartoon in question isn’t available on GooTube. But this is.)

  20. I’m thinking of Zeno’s Paradox.

You can’t be, because before you can think of Zeno’s Paradox, you must first think of half of Zeno’s paradox, and before you could do that…
