Killing for Votes

Independent Online:

US officials are reported by some Iraqi officials to have urged privately that the verdict [in Saddam Hussein’s trial] be announced tomorrow in order to improve the standing of President George Bush’s administration in the midterm elections two days later.

Is there nothing this administration won’t do to improve its prospects at the polls?

Update: Lest it be not clear, I am opposed to the death penalty in every case. It is, nevertheless gratifying to see someone who support it, (at least in Hussein’s case) objecting to this.

  1. Groan. But hey, I doubt it will work. The Republican Congress is toast. I hope I’m not being overly optimistic. Democrats: VOTE!!

I hope so, but I wouldn’t count your chickens… ‘Cause Diebold’s doing that for you.

  3. The beauty of it, Daran, is that Karl Rove has you doing his work for him. “Don’t bother to vote, liberals – it’s all fixed.”

That cuts both way. If it’s fixed, why should Republicans bother to vote?

But Democrats have a reason Republicans don’t. They need to witness as many stolen votes as possible.

  7. I notice that no one, not even Robert, is arguing that the verdict in the Hussein trial was pure justice and neither the timing nor the outcome had any political motivation whatsoever.

  11. There are two types of people in the world: those who voted for Chuck Norris and those who got roundhouse kicked by Chuck Norris before they could vote?

  12. been busy hacking Diebold machines to guarantee Chuck Norris a victory

Chuck Norris needs someone to hack Diebold machines to win an election? I’m so disappointed in him. I thought he just kicked the machines until they gave him all the votes.
