Announcing a Triumvirate of Tyranny!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Adam Gurri @ 6:42 pm

Ampersand was doing what you guys do, and asking me to make things better here. My response was, of course, “I will try my best, but will probably fail dismally and then cry myself to sleep”, something I’m sure you’re all used to hearing from me by now.

Well, Amp has a fair amount of experience with WordPress, and so he volunteered to pitch in–and so, he has been promoted to co-dictator, giving me one less person to have to purge someday.

He brought up the issue of the “recent comments” section on the sidebar, arguing that it would be better if we could just get it to list the posts that’ve recently been commented in, rather than listing comments themselves. The way it is now, when one post gets popular, all we’ll see are the comments in it and not any others.

If everyone’s cool with it, then I think he should just go ahead and make it happen. Any thoughts?

  1. That would be a good idea. Also, it should go further back – it’s still mostly just us chickens, and already posts are dropping off the radar even though there’s still a discussion going on.

  2. Bad news – I can’t do a thing. The problem with WordPress.com is that, although it makes everything easy, it does so by really eliminating the ability to control their own options.

I left a request for a better “recent comments” widget. And their FAQ says they’re looking into making plug-ins possible, which would be the ideal thing, since we could then really control things. But for now, it’s this recent comments widget or none at all.

  3. Yeah…Ampersand, I feared that might be the case. Damn.

Well, hopefully we’ll see more in the future.
